the $92k month that made me quit

june is almost over, so i did the usual monthly review

my monthly recurring revenue went from $28k to $38k

that's a $10k difference compared to May

not impressive at all if you're chasing peak months and big screenshots... it's literally 1 client (i used to offer a $10,5k mentorship paid upfront 6 months ago)

but i don't chase peak months anymore

my first coaching business had +$200k cash months

i've had $80-90k months cash collected with the digital coffee shop

record months, big dopamine hits and the kind of numbers you want to screenshot for the instagram story

but here's what nobody tells you about peak months:

you hit the magic number and feel like you're on top of the world... for about six seconds

then you start stressing about next month

because all of your clients paid upfront

4-12 month partnerships, every single dollar paid on day 1 of the partnership..

so the month after my $92k month in the coffee shop?

$35k

BUT with the workload, delivery, stress and 1:1 calls of a $92k month

the coaching and consulting industry is built on this paid up front model where you constantly chase the ceiling

while everyone else focuses on the ceiling

i only care about raising my floor

i'm adding $8k to $12k in MRR every month instead

it doesn't look impressive, but it feels a lot better

i want 60-70% of my clients' revenue to be MRR, just like my own

because it makes you make better decisions, it gives you peace of mind and it makes the business more enjoyable to run when you know you'll have an income next month

trust me, it feels good.. slow and steady wins the race

you can always find an ekstra 30-40% by incentivizing pay-in-full on some of your options on the Menu Card, i very much agree that cash on hand is better than cash in a spreadsheet

just not all of it

the base needs to be recurring

because peak months feel good for six seconds while MRR feels good every morning

best, fred

P.S

there's 2 spots left to work with me 1:1 inside of Fred's Inner Circle for the month of July, so if you'd like a more stable and predictable business, reply to this email with "MRR" and i'll send you all the details

this invitation closes on the 5th of July or whenever the 2 spots are filled, whichever option hits first

"Please Scale" Frederik Pahuus Be sure to always design your business first, and accept the life it gives you. Taking a sales call at 6pm is way more fun than having dinner with your partner of 7 years. She'll love you more because of it. If you had taken the call the next day, the deal would never have gone through. Impossible! And those Slack messages you answer on Saturday morning are super useful for your clients, it makes sure they can work all weekend instead of resting, thinking and...
