"be sure to" - a letter from Fred

"Please Scale"

Frederik Pahuus

Be sure to always design your business first, and accept the life it gives you. Taking a sales call at 6pm is way more fun than having dinner with your partner of 7 years. She'll love you more because of it. If you had taken the call the next day, the deal would never have gone through. Impossible! And those Slack messages you answer on Saturday morning are super useful for your clients, it makes sure they can work all weekend instead of resting, thinking and living. Keep it up!

And be sure to add a money back guarantee to your offer. It’s really good for your client relationships, because the client will trust the guarantee instead of themselves, the method and you. Those clients are the best to work with, because they are so stressed about short term results that they’ll do anything. They’ll even add a money back guarantee themselves to fuel your “client win” screenshots. It’s also super cool to always refer to the money back guarantee in your content and ads, you feel incredible when you say those words with pride in a rented Dubai studio.

And be sure to hire a customer success manager when you scale. The last thing you should do is spend time with the people who’ve paid you. They resonated with your story, your values and beliefs, so of course someone else can manage them. Yes, exactly those who believed your unique way of doing things was the exact path they needed. It’s really important you strip it away from them and make sure they talk as little as possible with you. If they ever wanna talk to you, make sure to add a price tag.

And be sure to always scale. What’s the point of making a living from your passion if you’re not trying to grow all the time? Duh. It’s a lot better to force growth rather than letting it happen. Forget about doing the things only you can do for eternity and loving the process every day. Enjoying the process is the dream of the unambitious. You and I run a coaching/consulting business, they are literally designed to be exited, productized and sold. If it’s not a $100m business, we don’t want it.

And be sure to outsource your content, the only thing in this world that truly belongs to you. It’s super easy for a $3k/month copywriter to replicate your ideas and unique perspectives. Your audience will never be able to tell the difference. I promise you. And make sure the person takes as much inspiration as possible from your competitors, you don’t want to stand out and be known for the ideas and stories only you can tell. Copying others is the best way to grow an audience of incredible people.

And be sure to never do unscalable tasks. How dare you answer with a Loom instead of a text to the client who needed more context? Did you really consider jumping on an extra call with that client who’s struggling without making them pay for it? If our actions can’t be tracked in a sheet or seen on Stripe, we don’t want to do it. Simple as that. A good rule for outsourcing is finding the task you love the most. Yes, the task that feels like work to others but play to you, that is the task which needs to be outsourced immediately.

Be sure to do all of those things

while you do so, i’ll be over here trying to make sense of my ideas by writing them down word for word every single day because i know those words will be a reflection of the clients i’ll work closely with over the next many days, weeks, months, years and decades that will follow the same routine of ideating, writing, delivering and living the life i always saw when i closed my eyes before going to sleep

best,

fred
