i didn't leave teaching, i just moved the classroom

it's a big day for the family today

my sister is graduating

she's worked super hard, im very proud of her and she will do great things in life

but just like every other graduate who has their entire life in front of them, she don't believe me

her thoughts are filled with uncertainty about the future

up until this point, her life has been planned out step by step

kindergarden, pre school, elementary school and then high school

for the first time since birth, she doesn't have to show up to a specific place after the summerbreak

now what?

i remember the feeling, it was about the same feeling i had seven years ago when my grandpa put on the "studenterhue" after a successful C in spanish 🤣

no habla espanol..

seven years ago today, i had no idea what i wanted to do with my life

both my parents are teachers, so i figured that was the natural path for me

so after graduating, i spent the following two years as a substitute teacher

it was incredible

it was in this period of my life i learned "you get what you give"

the energy and attention you give to kids will come right back at ya

fast forward to today, you'd think that everything has changed

you're now expecting a "rags to riches story" and how years of trauma and sacrifices turned me into a totally different person

well, im sorry to disappoint you, but there's only a few logistical changes

  • the old school classroom is now a zoom call
  • theres not 27 kids attending, but instead 27 incredible business owners
  • i dont teach danish or geography anymore... i teach content, copywriting and offers
  • im not getting paid $23/hour anymore, im getting paid a bit more

other than that, my life is pretty much the same

i work with humans, i try to be as useful as possible and do my best to better myself a little bit every single day

my mom and dad have followed that practice for the last 30 years

i plan on doing the same

and to my sister whos graduating with a good mix of excitement and uncertainty:

"find something you love, put one foot in front of the other every single day, and you'll be more than fine"

best, fred
